IKEBANA INTERNATIONAL HONOLULU CHAPTER 56
2010 PROGRAM
February Workshop
Sunday, February 21, 2010, 1 to 3 p.m. Moiliili Community Center
Co-Chaired by Elaine Kunimura and Ethel Aotani Instructor: Esther Sanborn
Find a hidden treasure in your closet, cupboard, or on the top shelf, something that is not a vase but could be used as a vase for your arrangement, such as coffee urn/pot, decanter, fondue pot, box, stein, kettle, dustpan, ice bucket, etc. We all admired Esther’s clever plastic pitcher arrangement at the Outrigger Canoe Club; she will now lead us in making use of our unused treasure as a vase for our ikebana.
Splendors of Ikebana
March 22 to 26, 2010 Honolulu Hale Courtyard
Chaired by Elaine Arita Co-Sponsored by the City and Country of Honolulu
Theme: Reflections of Traditional to Modern Ikebana
Here’s your opportunity to share your unique creative arrangement that will show your spirit of ikebana. The Exhibition Committee welcomes you with open arms and warm hearts. There will be 2 demonstrations and room for more than 45 displays including 4 – 5 large floor arrangements. Needless to say, the displays by the youth group is highly anticipated.

April Furoshiki Workshop
Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 1 to 3 p.m. Moiliili Community Center
Chaired by Jeanne Oka Room 105
Instructor: Evelyn Nakamura
Furoshiki is an alternative Japanese wrapping technique that is very "green". Learn to wrap gifts of different sizes and shapes using only a fabric square. Using and reusing a Furoshiki will eliminate wrapping paper, ribbons, tape, tissue paper, and cardboard boxes. It's an eco-friendly practice borrowed from the Japanese.
May Aloha Lunch
Saturday, May 1, 2010 Oahu Country Club
Co-Chaired by Ethel Aotani and Jeanne Oka Sponsored by Ele Potts
Featuring the vases of the Hawaii Potters’ Guild
Installation of Officers by Charlotte Muraoka
“May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii!” Join your fellow I. I. members in thanking and honoring our outgoing officers and board members who worked so diligently to guide our chapter for the past two years. Come to show your support to our new officers and board members for stepping up to meet the challenges of steering our ikebana chapter into the next two years. The vases of the members of the Hawaii Potters’ Gild will be featured in our exhibit as well as being on sale.
