Calligraphy Workshop
1 July
2023
Brandon Kiyoshi Goda (Shihou), an instructor
with the Seihitsu-kai Calligraphy Group provided an
introductory lesson on shodo, or the
practice of Japanese calligraphy with an ink brush.
Twelve members of II Chapter 56 worked diligently to
learn how to get the feel of the brush and ink to
properly create the kanji or character for flower (hana).
Held at the Shingon Mission they felt very blessed
to learn in a holy place. Brandon and his
assistants were happy to teach eager senior members
and also shared a video about the history of
calligraphy. He invited members interested in
learning more to visit and observe his regular class
on Sundays.
