Chabana Workshop

15 March 2020

Viva Inoue of the Toin Misho school led two groups in creating arrangements in a chabana-like style emphasizing simplicity and understatement using locally grown plants. Setsu Meyer shared her calligraphy of "Ichigo ichie", or "One moment in time, one encounter never to be repeated", along with several utensils typically used in the tea ceremony, as Ichigo ichie is the feeling typically conveyed by the tea ceremony.  The group then moved to the temporary tea room they'd set up in the classroom, where Viva explained the history and practice of the Omotesenke tea ceremony before serving everyone tea and wagashi, assisted by Emi Troeger.
