Printing with Plants Workshop

16 February 2020

Ann Asakura, assisted by Jake Wroten, led I.I. Chapter 56 members in printing floral materials via two methods.  In the first method, the group arranged their plants to create a negative print on fabric treated with Sun Dyes.  Jake demonstrated how weaving palm leaves could create interesting patterns for the negative print, which was tried by at least one participant.  The second method had members coating their plants with acrylic paints and then using brayers to press the pattern onto the fabric or washi paper to create positive color images.  At least one participant tried combining the two methods, doing a positive leaf print over the earlier negative print.
